THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL ANTISEMITISM REPORT

This week, we continued to monitor antisemitism around the world while advocating for more actions to be made.

In New York City this week, a Jewish man leaving Shabbat services was stabbed by an attacker who screamed, “Free Palestine” before fleeing. The victim was rushed to a  hospital and is currently in stable condition. In Stamford, Connecticut, a public school was vandalized with white supremacist and neo-Nazi graffiti for the second time in three weeks. In Bethesda, Maryland, a vandal spray-painted anti-Israel vitriol, including “Israel Rapes Men Women and Children,” on an elementary school’s front sign.

In Europe, Swiss authorities arrested a “mentally disturbed” man in Zurich who was preparing to set fire to a synagogue. In Melun, France, a non-Jew was attacked by assailants who shouted “Dirty Jew” and threatened to kill him. An American comedian performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival compared Israel to an abusive spouse, and when Israeli audience members said it was “not funny,” other audience members shouted, “F*** off,” “Genocidal maniac,” “You’re not welcome,” and “Free Palestine” at them.

In Canada, anti-Israel car rallies were held in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal, with protesters displayed banners falsely accusing Israel of genocide. In Toronto, demonstrators blocked a major road and released smoke grenades. They also held numerous signs and banners adorned with the pro-Hamas red inverted triangle and the phrase “Long Live Legal Armed Resistance.” In British Columbia, a local imam said “Jihad” was the “pinnacle of Islam” and asked for Allah to curse the Jews.

Although colleges are out of session for the summer, the problem of on-campus antisemitism persists. A University of Glasgow rector remotely participated in a “Divest for Palestine” conference, where she claimed that Western countries supporting Israel constituted an “Axis of Genocide.” Students at the University of Toronto violently clashed with police as they attempted to protest inside a university building, showing the challenge such actions will pose to college administrations across the globe in the coming weeks as classes resume.

This week’s Global Antisemitism Report highlights 113 new incidents, categorized as follows: 73 (64.6%) as anti-Israel or anti-Zionist manifestations of antisemitism, 21 (18.6%) as classical antisemitism, 10 (8.9%) as Islamist, 5 (4.4%) as Holocaust minimization and distortion, and 4 (3.5%) as unattributable.
