THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL ANTISEMITISM REPORT
This week, we continued to monitor antisemitism around the world while advocating for more actions to be made.
Anti-Israel demonstrators protesting the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago this week engaged in egregious displays of antisemitism and support for terrorism. As the convention unfolded, protesters carried signs outside reading “Globalize the Intifada” and “End Israel, Stand With Hamas.” Other demonstrators flew the Hamas flag and said, “I am Hamas. I support them one million percent.” A spokesman for the protest movement, Hatem Abudayyeh, referred to Jewish counter-demonstrators as “pig, racist Zionists.” An event that Agudath Israel hosted to discuss antisemitism was disrupted by anti-Israel protesters who chanted, “Brick By Brick, Wall By Wall, Zionism Has Got to Fall.”
Ahead of the convention, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson falsely asserted in an interview, “What’s happening right now [in Gaza] is not only egregious, it is genocidal.” On Sunday, a DNC event was disrupted by a protester accusing Democrats of supporting an “ongoing genocide.”
On Wednesday morning, more than 100 Jewish institutions in Canada, including synagogues, federation buildings, and hospitals, received identical emails containing threats of violence. In Latin America, police in Argentina arrested seven men associated with radical Islamist organizations, including the Taliban and ISIS, who were planning attacks against local Jewish targets.
Back in the United States, four Chicago hotels were sent bomb threats, including antisemitic remarks, on Tuesday. Meanwhile, far-right American media personality Candace Owens went on multiple antisemitic tirades this week. In remarks on her podcast, Owens claimed that Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin had been secretly Jewish and his supporters were part of a secret “Jewish cabal.” During another rant, Owens alleged that the Israeli Mossad assassinated President John F. Kennedy, and she called the United States an “occupied country,” alluding to the white supremacist “Zionist-Occupied Government” conspiracy theory.
This week’s Global Antisemitism Report highlights 223 new incidents, categorized as follows: 106 (47.5%) as unattributable, 86 (38.6%) as anti-Israel or anti-Zionist manifestations of antisemitism, 13 (5.8%) as classical antisemitism, 13 (5.8%) as Islamist, and 5 (2.2%) as Holocaust minimization and distortion.
