THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL ANTISEMITISM REPORT
This week, we continued to monitor antisemitism around the world while advocating for more actions to be made.
Australian Children’s Author Justifies Antisemitic Bondi Beach Massacre
As the new year begins, antisemitic violence, vandalism, and hate speech continue to roil Jewish communities globally. Incidents the Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) by CAM recorded during the past three weeks include:
- Germany: The private property of the German state of Brandenburg’s Commissioner for Combating Antisemitism, Andreas Büttner, was targeted in a suspected arson attack.
- Australia: Prominent Australian children’s author Matthew Jones published an essay defending the Bondi Beach Hanukkah massacre and explicitly justifying the murder of a rabbi.
- Canada: For the second time in less than a month, mezuzahs were torn from doorframes at a North York apartment complex home to many Jewish seniors, including Holocaust survivors.
- Nepal: The Chabad House in Kathmandu has been forced to vacate its longtime location after sustained pressure from its landlord, who viewed the Jewish presence as a liability.
