Vandals Deface Holocaust Memorial in Ottawa With "Feed Me" in Red Paint

Crews cleaned up Canada’s National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa Monday morning, after it was defaced with red paint. The Ottawa Police Service’s Hate and Bias Crime Unit is investigating after the paint was discovered on the monument along the Kichi Zibi Mikan, just west of downtown Ottawa. A photo sent to CTV News Ottawa showed the words “Feed Me” painted in large letters on the monument. “We were disgusted to learn that the National Holocaust Monument was defaced overnight,” Adam Silver, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Jewish bodies have responded with outrage after Israeli runners were harassed during South Africa’s 89km. Comrades Marathon on Sunday after the ANCYL publicly named them and shared their race numbers. Videos from the race – which is the world’s oldest ultramarathon – show Israeli runners being followed by anti-Israel protesters shouting “Free Palestine,” “You are not welcome,” and “Go home.” Other videos show the Israeli runners being chased for extended periods of time by people jeering and waving Palestinian flags.

At these events, the religious scholars called for supporting Palestinians and Kashmiris.

Meidad Hozeh, 35, was using Google Maps while walking to a gym when the app’s Hebrew voice command drew the attention of nearby passersby. One man stopped him and asked, “Are you from Israel?” — and Hozeh replied yes. That was all it took. “He began cursing at me and went into a frenzy,” Hozeh told the Israeli news outlet Maariv. “A group of people joined in. They started yelling, hitting me — I ran into the middle of the road to escape, hoping cars would shield me. But they chased me, even through traffic.”
