THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL ANTISEMITISM REPORT

This week, we continued to monitor antisemitism around the world while advocating for more actions to be made.

Manifestations of anti-Jewish hatred persisted across the globe this week, with a particular focus on American college campuses. At Columbia University, more than 100 students were arrested by police after they violently occupied Hamilton Hall. At UCLA, a Zionist student holding a “Rape is not resistance” placard was attacked by anti-Israel demonstrators, and on the same campus checkpoints were set up to prevent Zionist students from entering campus facilities. At Stanford University, an anti-Israel student was filmed wearing a Hamas headband. Cases of campus antisemitism were also seen in Canada, Spain, Turkey, Tunisia, and Lebanon

In London, England, a Holocaust memorial was covered up by authorities for fear of vandalism amid a large anti-Israel protest. In Warsaw, Poland, a bottle containing flammable liquids was thrown toward a synagogue. Major anti-Israel demonstrations also took place in Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin, Reykjavik, Madrid, and Milan

In South  America, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced he would sever diplomatic relations with Israel in protest of the ongoing war in Gaza.

Also this week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Antisemitism Awareness Act (AAA), which would codify the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism into Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. CAM has worked closely with lawmakers to advance the AAA. CAM also mobilized its network of grassroots activists to send more than 10,000 communications to their congressional representatives advocating for the passage of the AAA.

Lastly, during the month of May we honor the rich heritage and societal contributions of Jewish Americans. During Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM), we stand united in recognition and celebration, reaffirming our collective commitment to combating antisemitism and fostering social harmony across the nation.

This week’s Global Antisemitism Report highlights 126 new incidents, categorized as follows: 100 (79.4%) as anti-Israel or anti-Zionist manifestations of antisemitism, 14 (11.1%) as Islamist, 7 (5.6%) as classical antisemitism,  4 (3.2%) as unattributable, and 1 (0.8%) as Holocaust minimization and distortion.
