This week, we continued to monitor antisemitism around the world while advocating for more actions to be made.
Jews and Israelis faced violence worldwide this week.
In Ottawa, Canada, a man with a long record of antisemitic hate speech stabbed an elderly Jewish woman in a grocery store. At Santa Monica Pier in California, a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators violently attacked an Israeli man.
Antisemitic violence reared its head in Europe as well when Israeli singer David D’Or faced an assault with red paint during a concert in Warsaw, Poland.
Not even synagogues were spared from the onslaught of hate. The ARC recorded several incidents targeting Jewish places of worship this week, including:
- France: Police arrested a man on Friday evening after he threatened Jews near a synagogue in the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine.
- United States: Police arrested a man in Houston, Texas who attempted to enter a synagogue after targeting it with 30 threatening emails.
- Colombia: Antisemitic vandals spray painted the Sociedad Hebrea de Socorros synagogue with graffiti equating the Star of David to a swastika.
