The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) has issued a statement of support for the “No Tax Dollars for College Encampments Act” that was introduced in the U.S. Congress by Representatives Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Jim Banks (R-IN) on Monday.
The legislation aims to make federal accreditation for universities contingent on having and abiding by rules and procedures to stop encampments, campus building takeovers, and other on-campus civil disturbances following the anti-Israel encampments that have spread across American universities this year.
“These college encampments have only sought to intimidate and isolate Jewish students on campus, threatening their safety and leaving them fearful of attending classes,” CAM said. “We applaud Rep. Stefanik and Rep. Banks for their work as the passivity of university administrations is fueling the expansion of these encampments. We must push for stronger measures to protect Jewish students. It is time for colleges to be held accountable for their inaction and for protesters to face consequences for their actions.”

“I am committed to ridding universities of the antisemitic rot corrupting our students and making campuses dangerous and unwelcoming to our Jewish communities which is why I am proud to help lead the No Tax Dollars for College Encampments Act,” Congresswoman Stefanik stated. “This legislation would prevent the disgraceful mob riots we saw overtake campuses across the country including Columbia University and make sure school leaders are enforcing policies against hostile campus takeovers. Any university leaders that fail to stand up for our Jewish community will be held accountable.”

Congressman Banks said, “Last school year, makeshift encampments were allowed to flourish on campuses across the country, disrupting classes and intimidating Jewish students. This is unacceptable. My legislation holds these woke universities accountable and ensures they enforce protest rules fairly and equally, not only when it fits their political agenda.”
