Combat Antisemitism Movement (CEO) Sacha Roytman issued the following statement on Tuesday, welcoming the release of California’s “Golden State Plan to Counter Antisemitism”:
“As California is home to the second-largest Jewish population in the United States with more than 1.2 million Jewish residents, we applaud Governor Gavin Newsom’s very necessary ‘Golden State Plan to Counter Antisemitism’ as a significant step forward in protecting Jewish communities from violence and discrimination, while also uplifting Jewish heritage and promoting education on Jewish and Israeli culture.”
“To further strengthen the plan amid the ongoing rise of antisemitism in California, we urge Governor Newsom to incorporate the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism, proven by CAM’s research to be the most effective tool in identifying and combating antisemitism. By adopting the IHRA definition, California’s plan will be even better equipped to delineate, address, and confront antisemitism in all its contemporary forms.”
“Thank you, Governor Newsom, for standing in solidarity with the Jewish people at this challenging moment in history. We look forward to California to becoming the 37th U.S. state to adopt the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism in the near future.”
