‘Pull the Pulitzer’: CAM Calls for Revocation of Award to 10/7 Denier Journalist Mosab Abu Toha

Earlier this week, the Pulitzer Prize Board awarded the writer Mosab Abu Toha for his commentary on the war in the Gaza Strip. Abu Toha has denied the atrocities committed against Israeli civilians during and after Hamas’s October 7 attacks — leading to appropriate condemnation of the decision, including by former hostage Emily Damari.

The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) released the following statement on Thursday:

“The Pulitzer Prize Board’s decision to award Mosab Abu Toha sends the unfortunate message that Jewish anguish is unimportant, and that minimizing and mocking it is acceptable, even laudable. CAM calls on the Board to rescind the award immediately.”

“Abu Toha has repeatedly denied the suffering of Israeli hostages, attacked the BBC (calling it a “propaganda machine”) for reporting that Ariel and Kfir Bibas — 4 years old and 10 months old at their deaths, respectively — had been murdered, and continued to assert that Israel bombed the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza after it was confirmed to be the act of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”

“Yesterday, former hostage Emily Damari – who survived 471 agonizing days of captivity in Gaza and lost two fingers after being shot during Hamas’s October 7 rampage — excoriated this recognition: ‘You claim to honor journalism that upholds truth, democracy, and human dignity. And yet you have chosen to elevate a voice that denies truth, erases victims, and desecrates the memory of the murdered.’ She is right.”

“That is why CAM is leading a campaign to ‘Pull the Pulitzer’ from Abu Toha. We cannot allow this insult to the Jewish people to go unanswered.”
