‘The Passover Story Is Not Just a Tale of Ancient Liberation — It Is an Eternal Call to Action’

A special Passover message from Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) CEO Sacha Roytman:

As Jews gather around the Seder table this year, we are reminded once again that the Passover story is not just a tale of ancient liberation — it is an eternal call to action, just as relevant now as it was for our forebears thousands of years ago in Egypt.

Passover commemorates the Exodus — the Jewish people’s foundational journey from slavery to freedom. At its heart is the Haggadah, the ritual text recited at the Seder, guiding us through this timeless narrative and its moral lessons.

.בכל דור ודור חייב אדם לראות את עצמו כאילו הוא יצא ממצרים

“In every generation, one is obligated to see themselves as if they personally came out of Egypt.”

This powerful line from the Haggadah is not just symbolic. It reminds us that in every generation, Jews must rise to confront the forces of hatred, oppression, and evil — often at great cost, and always with deep courage.

This year, that call takes on a poignant urgency. As we recount our ancestors’ trek across the desert to the Promised Land, more than 50 innocent hostages remain in captivity in Gaza, an unfathomable year and a half after the October 7th massacre. Their absence is felt profoundly by Jews everywhere, underscoring the painful reality that our fight for freedom is not consigned to the history books — it is an ongoing struggle demanding mobilization today.

It also reinforces the maxim that freedom is never guaranteed. Throughout the Middle East, the Iranian regime continues to sow violence and terror. Around the world, antisemitism is resurgent — more organized, more visible, and more emboldened than at any time since the end of the Second World War and the Holocaust.

Yet Passover is also a festival of hope. It teaches that redemption is possible, and that even in the darkest moments, there is a path forward. But only if we walk it — with unity, resolve, and faith, as our ancestors did when they entered the parted waters of the Red Sea.

At the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM), we understand our role in this generation’s fight for freedom is both urgent and essential. Every day, we work collaboratively with more than 850 partner organizations, decision makers at the global, national, and local levels, faith leaders, communal institutions, and grassroots activists to expose hate, empower allies, support victims, and spur engagement. From preserving and promoting Jewish heritage, to protecting students on college campuses, to building broad coalitions for impactful change — we are bringing people of conscience together to defend the shared values undergirding modern civilization.

At CAM, we know that the story of Passover is our mission every day — to move from darkness to light, from fear to strength, from silence to action.

I wish you and your loved ones a meaningful and peaceful Passover.

May the spirit of liberation inspire us all to act with purpose, clarity, and resilience.

Join us. Stand with us. Support our work.

Together, we can do our part in the perpetual fight for freedom, both for today and the generations to come.

With gratitude and determination,
