The Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) by CAM recently began documenting and reporting to Meta the glorification and promotion of terror by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapters on Instagram.
In addition to the 17 SJP chapters previously flagged by CAM, the past week of monitoring turned up ten more examples of SJP chapters at U.S. universities expressing support for Hamas in the aftermath of October 7th atrocity it perpetrated in southern Israel.
SJP chapters regularly attempt to whitewash Hamas’ crimes — including mass murder of civilians and sexual violence — by painting the U.S.-designated terrorist organization’s actions as justified “resistance” to oppression, ignoring Hamas’ longstanding genocidal antisemitic ideology.
Almost immediately following the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, SJP’s national umbrella body published a “tool kit” celebrating the “historic win for the Palestinian resistance,” setting the rhetorical tone that local chapters have mimicked over the past nine months.
Earlier this year, a lawsuit was filed against American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP) in U.S. court for being alleged “collaborators and propagandists” for Hamas.
Below are the latest examples of SJP chapters showing support for Hamas uncovered by CAM and shared with Meta:
SJP at John Jay College – CUNY:
SJP at Lehman College – CUNY :
SJP at Arizona State University:
SJP at California Institute of Technology:
SJP at California State University – Fullerton:
SJP at California State University – Northridge:
Meta clearly prohibits such content in its community standards, which forbid “glorification, support, and representation” of “terrorist organizations, including entities and individuals designated by the United States government as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) or Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).”
After reporting content to Meta, they removed several posts that violated this policy, but because SJP chapters continue to extol terrorism on Instagram, constant vigilance is needed.
CAM urges Meta to keep removing problematic content and to suspend accounts promoting violent terror against Israel and Jews.
In addition, administrations of universities hosting SJP chapters that glorify terrorism should publicly denounce this behavior and end any affiliation with the groups. Students who violate university codes of conduct must be disciplined in line with university policies to ensure that Jewish, Zionist, and Israeli students are safe on campus.
