Since the October 7th Hamas massacre in Israel, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapters on campuses across the United States have justified the brutal attack and glorified terrorism against Jews.
Less than a week after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, SJP’s national umbrella body published a “tool kit” celebrating the “historic win for the Palestinian resistance,” setting the rhetorical tone for local chapters to mimic.
Alarmed by this dangerous trend, the Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) by CAM has been monitoring the Instagram accounts of more than 200 SJP chapters, documenting expressions of support for terrorism and terrorist organizations and reporting to Meta these infractions of the social media giant’s community standards, which prohibit “glorification, support, and representation” of “terrorist organizations, including entities and individuals designated by the United States government as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) or Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).”
Hamas and Hezbollah have been designated as FTOs since 1997.
The Combat Antisemitism Movement urges Meta to strictly enforce its community standards and take necessary action to prevent Instagram from being used as a platform to support, glorify, or justify the targeting of innocent civilians in Israel.
A sample of recent problematic content documented by the ARC team follows:
