THIS WEEK’S GLOBAL ANTI-SEMITISM REPORT

This week, the number of antisemitic incidents worldwide continued to drop from last month’s sharp spike, yet Jewish communities remain under threat, with Jews still being attacked across the globe over their religious identities.

In Los Angeles, California, a young Jewish boy playing with friends on a street was punched by an adult passerby. In London, England, a kippah-wearing man was verbally accosted by members of a pro-Palestinian vehicle convoy. In Frankfurt, Germany, a Torah ark in the Jewish prayer room at the city’s international airport was daubed with a swastika. In Montreal, Canada, a kosher restaurant was badly vandalized in what police are investigating as a potential hate crime. And in southern France, two Jewish communities are on edge after receiving menacing letters threatening violence.

Meanwhile, Jewish employees at Stanford University have filed a workplace discrimination complaint over alleged antisemitic harassment. The U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan resolution condemning the recent rise of antisemitism targeting American Jews. And in Texas, a bipartisan bill adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism was signed into law by the governor.

CAM’s weekly global antisemitism report highlights 34 new media reports of antisemitic incidents, including 10 (29.4%) from the far left and 9 (26.5%) from the far right, as well as 6 (17.6%) with Islamist motivations, and 9 (26,5%) unidentifiable in nature.

By Kalhan Rosenblatt

Jewish creators say speaking about their Judaism on TikTok comes with a price. Comment sections on the content of Jewish TikTokers are often filled with antisemitic remarks, stereotypes and slurs. Some Jewish creators say they have to think about whether they want to disclose their Judaism, knowing the harassment they’re likely to be subjected to. Some Jewish creators said they feel the app is subjecting them to a type of censorship by regularly flagging and removing their content. Read Here

NYPD INVESTIGATES MULTIPLE ANTISEMITIC INCIDENTS IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

By Jerusalem Post Staff

Police are investigating multiple antisemitic incidents that took place in recent days in Brooklyn and New York City, as antisemitism continues to rise worldwide. One incident last Thursday saw a 30-year-old Jewish man in East Flatbush approached by a currently unidentified suspect, who threatened him and made antisemitic comments. Another incident in early June saw three men on motorcycles approach a 21-year-old Jewish man in Williamsburg. At first, the suspects just demanded money, but when the victim attempted to call the police, the suspects took off, with one taking the man’s kippah and shouting antisemitic remarks. Read Here

CAMPAIGNERS CALL ON BORIS JOHNSON TO BOYCOTT ‘JEW-HATE FEST’ DURBAN IV CONFERENCE

By JC Reporter

Jewish groups have intensified calls on the Prime Minister to boycott the 20th anniversary of the notoriously antisemitic Durban conference at a time of rising Jew-hatred in Britain. The campaign groups warn that a planned revival of the UN’s infamously antisemitic 2001 ‘anti-racism’ summit in Durban, South Africa, set to take place in New York this September, may legitimise anti-Jewish bigotry on a global scale. NAZI SWASTIKA DAUBED ON TORAH ARK INSIDE FRANKFURT AIRPORT SYNAGOGUE

By AP

A leading Jewish group in Germany on Saturday condemned the antisemitic desecration of a Torah ark inside the Jewish prayer room at Frankfurt’s international airport. Frankfurt police said a swastika was painted on the cabinet inside the prayer room, which is located in the airport transit area. The swastika was discovered several days ago, but it was not clear how long it had been there because the prayer room had been closed for some time because of the coronavirus pandemic, German news agency dpa reported. ADL DOCUMENTS ANTISEMITIC, ANTI-ISRAEL SERMONS ACROSS MIDDLE EAST

By Jerusalem Post Staff

During the Gaza conflict of May 2021 and in the months around it, Urdu-language YouTube channels have uploaded a series of propaganda and so-called “fake news” videos targeting Israel. While some of these videos included content that was indeed partially fake, many of the videos delved into the intricacies of international relations between the nation-states of the Middle East and offered deep insight into Pakistani public opinion. Many of the videos were filled with prejudice and hate toward Jews and called for jihad against Israel.

An independent investigation into a Massachusetts high school football team accused of using antisemitic language in its play calling has reportedly found a systemic pattern spanning nearly a decade. The investigation was prompted in March after accusations that the Duxbury High School team incorporated the word “Auschwitz” into its on-field play calling scheme, The Associated Press reported. STANFORD THERAPISTS ALLEGE ‘HOSTILE CLIMATE’ FOR JEWS IN THE WORKPLACE

By Gabe Stutman

Two Jewish mental health professionals at Stanford’s on-campus counseling clinic have filed workplace discrimination complaints after what they call “severe and persistent” anti-Jewish harassment from colleagues. Dr. Ronald Albucher, a psychiatrist and associate professor in the medical school, and Sheila Levin, a therapist specializing in eating disorders, describe being pressed into joining a “whiteness” affinity group by staffers with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program, being told they were “privileged,” and seeing antisemitic incidents downplayed.

AMERICAN JEWS STILL REELING FROM RISE IN ANTI-SEMITISM AFTER ISRAEL HAMAS CONFLICT, SURVEY SHOWS

By Jemma McEvoy

Weeks after the end of the deadly fighting between Israel and Gaza’s militant Hamas leaders, American Jews are more concerned about their safety and say they are witnessing anti-Semitism at a dramatically increased rate, according to the results of an anti-Defamation League survey published Monday. The survey of nearly 600 Jewish Americans by the anti-hate group found 60% reported witnessing behavior or comments they personally deemed to be anti-Semitic following the violence. A vast majority (77%) said they are at least somewhat concerned about anti-Semitism in America following the recent violence, while most also want federal and state leaders to do more to address the recent uptick in anti-Semitism.

ANTISEMITISM ‘MAINSTREAMED’ IN WESTERN EUROPEAN POLITICS, SAYS ISRAELI STUDY

By Lazar Berman

Fringe ideas and political parties are moving into the mainstream in Western Europe, bringing with them antisemitic views, according to an Israeli study to be released Tuesday that found a worrying convergence of far-right and far-left hate. The study, a joint project of the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv and the Jewish Agency, studied expressions of antisemitism by politicians and political parties in the five Western European nations between late 2019 and late 2020.

OVER 850 HARVARD AFFILIATES DENOUNCE ANTISEMITISM, ‘DEMONIZATION’ OF ISRAEL

By Dion J. Pierre

Over 850 students, faculty and other affiliates of Harvard University have signed a statement in support of Israel’s “right to self-defense” and the “right of the Jewish people to self-determination,” which also criticized what it called the rise of anti-Israel activism on campus. The letter comes amid a nationwide spike in antisemitism that included two recent acts of vandalism involving the Harvard Hillel building.

PROMINENT TECH LEADERS ISSUE OPEN LETTER DENOUNCING ANTISEMITISM

By Algemeiner Staff

A group of prominent tech leaders issued an open letter opposing antisemitism on Sunday, saying, “Too few Americans acknowledge that antisemitism … exists.” “The events of recent weeks cannot hide the truth,” it says. “A violent mob macing and punching a man in New York wearing a yarmulke. Shattered synagogue windows and attacks on Jewish community centers. A group of people throwing bottles and yelling ‘die dirty Jew’ at a dinner in LA.” “To be too Jewish in America, or to be a Jew, is still a dangerous mark,” the signatories said.
