A suspect deliberately ignited a fire in the communal stairwell of a residential building in London’s Golders Green neighborhood on Tuesday, in what community security group Shomrim was treating as an act of arson on a block inhabited predominantly by Jewish families.
Residents witnessed the individual set the fire and challenged him before he fled the scene. One tenant moved quickly to extinguish the blaze, and no injuries resulted.
The building stands on Bridge Lane, NW11. It is home primarily to Jewish residents, many of them young families.
Shomrim responded to the scene, collected physical evidence believed to belong to the perpetrator, and assisted the Metropolitan Police with a CCTV investigation.

Tuesday’s incident is the latest in a sustained wave of antisemitic violence in Golders Green. On March 23, arsonists torched four Hatzola ambulances outside a local synagogue. Just over a month later, two Jewish men were stabbed on Golders Green Road in an attack police designated as terrorism, with an Iran-linked group claiming responsibility. Then, on May 14, five masked men beat a 22-year-old Israeli visitor near-unconscious after hearing him speak Hebrew, also on Golders Green Road.
