The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) made its first-ever official visit to Peru last week, with CAM Advisory Board for Latin America Chair Pilar Rahola and CAM Manager of Hispanic Affairs Nurit Caplivschi traveling to the capital, Lima, for three days of high-level meetings, media interviews, and other public engagement activities.

The trip — whose purpose was to mobilize action against antisemitism and foster support for the State of Israel in Peru– was organized in collaboration with the Jewish Association of Peru, Hebraica Peru, and the Israeli Embassy in Lima.

While in Lima, Rahola and Caplivschi took part in a Jewish communal event attended by more than 450 participants, with President of the Jewish Association of Peru Jimmy Atun offered opening remarks.

The itinerary included a breakfast at the residence of Israeli Ambassador to Peru Eran Yuvan, joined by a group of prominent Peruvian journalists and political analysts, and Rahola led a seminar for university students on the current state of antisemitism in Latin America and beyond.

Rahola and Caplivschi also presented CAM’s mission and work in a series of sit-downs with lawmakers and other Peruvian political officials.

“Our first visit to Peru was very important and successful,” Caplivschi noted. “We were very impressed by the level of commitment and openness to a constructive dialogue with the different representatives we met.”

“We would especially like to thank the representatives of the Jewish community for their cooperation,” she added. “This is just the beginning of an important work in the country.”

CAM looks forward to continued engagement in Peru. CAM’s outreach in Latin America began three years ago, and since then it has worked diligently to build meaningful partnerships and friendships with influential leaders, lawmakers, diplomats, community organizations, and civil society activists from a diverse assortment of religious, political and cultural backgrounds in the region to combat antisemitism together.

During this time, CAM en Español has emerged as a key player in the battle against Jew-hatred in Latin America, with a growing coalition involved in impactful activities in countries including Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, and Costa Rica, among others.

CAM en Español has organized regional summits hosted by Costa Rica in 2024, Uruguay in 2023, Panama in 2022, and Guatemala in 2021.
