Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) representatives visited the Dominican Republic last week as part of preparations for the upcoming sixth-annual Latin American Forum Against Antisemitism, set to be held in Santo Domingo this summer.
The CAM en Español delegation was led by Executive Director of Hispanic Affairs Shay Salamon and Manager of Hispanic Affairs Nurit Caplivschi.
The itinerary of the three-day trip included meetings with: Dominican Chamber of Deputies Member and Former Chamber Vice President Olfanny Mendez and her staff; Dominican Chamber of Deputies Member Jorge Zorrilla; retired Major League Baseball All-Star Nelson Cruz; Ambassador of Israel to the Dominican Raslan Abu Rukun; and Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul of the Israeli Embassy in Santo Domingo Ilan Vulej, among other institutional officials and communal leaders.

Salamon and Caplivschi had previously visited to Santo Domingo in December. “The Dominican Republic holds a unique place in Jewish history as the only nation that opened its doors to Jewish refugees during the Holocaust, offering safety when the rest of the world turned its back,” Salamon said at the time. “On CAM’s first visit to this country, we were privileged to see the sympathy that still exists here today for the Jewish people and state.”
