A man armed with a knife threatened three Jewish pedestrians on Friday evening as they returned from synagogue in Paris, prompting a criminal investigation by French authorities.
The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m., as the three Jews, all in their twenties and wearing kippahs, were walking home from a synagogue on Rue Longchamp, in the 16th arrondissement of the French capital.
The attacker reportedly approached the men and asked if they were Jewish. After they answered yes, he pulled a knife from his pocket and shouted “Israelite.”
The men ran to escape the threat. One briefly tripped while fleeing, but all three reached nearby police officers and were not injured.
Prosecutors opened an investigation into violence involving a weapon motivated by religion. Police were handling the case and working to identify and arrest the suspect.
Jeremy Redler, mayor of the 16th arrondissement, strongly condemned the attack and expressed support for the victims. “I will continue to fight tirelessly against antisemitism,” Redler said.
Authorities have released no further details about the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
