Neo-Nazi Scandinavian Group Targets Jews on Yom Kippur
The Nordic Resistance Movement, a Neo-Nazi group that recently merged all its branches in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland, targeted Jews with a physical and virtual campaign of hatred in the days leading up to Yom Kippur.Â
According to the Jerusalem Post, websites that belong to the neo-Nazi movement listed actions taken in almost 20 different cities in the region. These included confronting Jewish worshippers, standing in front of synagogues, and placing anti-Semitic posters in public areas with Jewish communities. The Nordic Resistance Movement, also known as the Nordic League, wrote that it had chosen to do these actions on Yom Kippur in order to “make the Nordic people aware of foreign customs and Zionist ruling plans throughout the Nordic region.”Â
Saskia Pantell, President of the Swedish Zionist Federation and Founder of the Sweden Israel Alliance, said: “This is clearly based off classical anti-Semitism and blood libels. This is something that should concern every Swedish person and not just Jews.” The posters disseminated by the Nordic League spread lies and slander about the Jewish people and end in a call to action against them. One poster reads: “The Jews also conduct kosher slaughter, where they cut the throat of a live animal without anesthesia. Join the movement against animal torture.”
Last week the Supreme Court of Finland issued a cease-and-desist order to the Nordic Resistance Movement, marking the first such order issued since the 1970s. Saskia Pantell added: “All of the Scandinavian countries should follow Finland’s example.”
