A group linked to an internationally-banned terrorist front is holding a conference in Toronto this November to celebrate the October 7th massacre.
Masar Badil is behind the event. The group is closely linked to Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, which Canada listed as a terrorist entity for its close links to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The United States sanctioned both Samidoun and Masar Badil’s own leader in 2024.
“2026 marks three years since one of the most courageous acts of resistance in our lifetimes: Al-Aqsa Flood Battle,” Masar Badil wrote on the conference website. “This is the time for us in the Global North — particularly in occupied Turtle Island, the home of American and Canadian imperialism — to have a serious reckoning with this glorious feat, which took the theoretical notion of liberation and made it concrete.”
Plotting Against the West From the Belly of the Beast
The conference subtitle is “Resistance and Return From the Belly of the Beast.” Masar Badil targets what it calls “occupied Turtle Island, the home of American and Canadian imperialism.” This is not a movement focused solely on Israel. It treats the United States and Canada as enemies to dismantle alongside the Jewish state. The rhetoric of “belly of the beast” and “imperialism” is common currency among such groups, language that frames Western democracy itself as the target.
Masar Badil announced the event on what it calls “Nakba Day,” which in reality marks the founding of the State of Israel, saying the goal was to “consolidate regional forces.” The group also stated on its website: “The brave efforts of the resistance continue to open up the possibility of return for the scattered Palestinian diaspora, who must now form a response to this newfound reality.” That language is a direct call for the dismantling of the Jewish state and the displacement of its population.
Among the endorsers was Tariq El-Tahrir Youth and Student Network, which previously petitioned for the release of Elias Rodriguez, the gunman who murdered a young Jewish couple outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., last May. Nidal Seattle, run by Bissan Barghouti, former head of Samidoun Seattle and a Masar Badil executive, also signed on.
The United States sanctioned Masar Badil leader Khaled Barakat in 2024 for co-founding the group and holding a position in the PFLP’s leadership abroad. He is married to Charlotte Kates, Samidoun’s international coordinator, who lives in Vancouver. Together they run a network that openly celebrates the murder of Jews.
