Demonstrators marched along Yonge Street in downtown Toronto on Saturday afternoon, chanting “We will honor all our martyrs, all our children, sons and daughters!”
The crowd marked three years since the Hamas-led massacre on southern Israel in which nearly 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were murdered and another 251 were abducted to Gaza.
Participants also called out “In my lifetime I will see Palestinians living free!” Behind a loudspeaker truck, some shouted “Overthrow the Epstein class.”
The crowd also chanted “Globalize the Intifada,” while a speaker urged supporters to “strike imperialism” from North America — which the speaker called “Turtle Island” — to Sudan and Congo.

The Canadian Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) voiced concern over the weekend’s events. “Canada’s Integrated Threat Assessment Centre has warned about the consequences of turning a blind eye: when targeting of the Jewish community becomes frequent and normalized, it can push susceptible individuals toward violence,” the organization said. “Events praising the ‘resistance’ responsible for the October 7 atrocities as communities gather to mourn the murdered demands moral clarity from civic leaders about what is acceptable in our society.”
A far smaller group of counterprotesters carrying Israeli and Iranian flags stood at the southern end of Sankofa Square, where the crowd assembled. Police and barricades kept the two groups apart before the march began.
The Israeli Ministry for Diaspora Affairs counted 17 protests scheduled across Canada from Saturday through Wednesday, including in Montreal and Ottawa.
