An Israeli woman recently canceled a stay in Italy’s Tuscany region after receiving a message endorsing the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement and accusing Israel of “genocide.”
The traveler — who asked to remain anonymous and was planning a 30th birthday trip with her parents — had booked two nights from September 21 to 23 at B&B L’Imbrunire in Campiglia d’Orcia via Holidu.
She messaged the host on WhatsApp to ask about paying directly at the property instead of through the site. The host then asked her to cancel the online reservation and rebook with the property. Once she supplied her details and the host realized her nationality, the property sent a written statement outlining its position on banning Israelis.
“Excuse me. I see you’re Israeli. For transparency, we support the BDS (No Room for Genocide) campaign. We do not want to support the policies of the state of Israel in any way, and we categorically condemn those who practice systems of injustice and oppression,” the property wrote. “We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. This campaign, which we support, takes a stand against Israel’s military occupation and pledges not to contribute in any way to Israel’s grave violations of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the Palestinian people. I hope you understand!”
The false accusation that Israel is committing genocide is a modern-day blood libel that recasts the Jewish state’s war against Hamas as a campaign to destroy the Palestinian people. It erases Hamas’s Oct. 7th massacre while fueling collective blame against Jews worldwide.
“They didn’t explicitly say that I couldn’t stay there,” the woman told The Jerusalem Post. “However, the message was very strongly worded and made me feel that I might not be welcome or safe if I did stay there. That was where the conversation ended.”
She withdrew her booking and posted about the exchange on Google. She said comments left by her and her friends were later deleted from the property’s listing.
Describing the experience, the woman said, “I never imagined that in 2026 I would experience something like this in Europe… The moment they discovered I was Israeli, that changed. Suddenly I was being judged not for anything I had said or done, but simply for where I was born and the passport I carry… Political criticism is legitimate. Holding an individual traveler responsible for the actions of an entire government is discrimination.”
