Don’t Miss Unveiling of Los Angeles Street Mural Honoring Polish ‘Righteous Among the Nations’ Hero Irene Gut Opdyke
On Sunday, February 26th, at 4 PM PT, Artists 4 Israel — in partnership with the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) — will unveil in downtown Los Angeles a 60×15 foot street mural honoring the late Polish “Righteous Among the Nations” hero Irene Gut Opdyke.
The event — taking place in Los Angeles’ Arts District — will feature the participation of Opdyke’s daughter, Jeannie Opdyke Smith, as well CAM Advisory Board member Elan Carr and rock and roll legend Gene Simmons.
As a young Catholic woman during World War II, Irene Gut Opdyke bravely hid 12 Jews in the basement of a villa in occupied Poland where she was employed as a housekeeper for a Nazi officer.
The mural revelation ceremony will be followed by wine and live music.
To RSVP, please email: RSVP@artists4israel.org
The street art honoring Opdyke is the latest installation of Artist 4 Israel’s “Righteous Among the Nations” Global Mural Project, following similar displays in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal; Patras, Greece; and New York City.
The event is being hosted by Art at the Rendon and sponsored by the Philos Action League. Food and alcohol sponsors are Topo Chico and the Angel City Brewery.
