Job Opportunity: CAM Is Hiring a Deputy Director of US State Engagement

Status: Active

The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) is seeking a Deputy Director of State Engagement to help expand and strengthen CAM’s work with state governments across the United States, advancing legislation, proclamations, education initiatives, and partnerships that combat antisemitism at the state level.

The Deputy Director of State Engagement will report directly to the CAM Director of State Engagement and work closely with CAM’s policy, communications, research, and events teams. The role is ideal for someone who is organized, politically aware, detail-oriented, and comfortable engaging directly with state officials, education leaders, and Jewish community stakeholders.

The Deputy Director will support the full range of CAM’s state-level work, including legislative tracking, stakeholder outreach, event planning, Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) programming, and communications with state leaders nationwide.

The position is remote, for a U.S.-based candidate, with a need for regular travel.

Key Responsibilities

Legislative Tracking and Policy Support

  • Track antisemitism-related legislation, resolutions, and proclamations across all 50 states, including, but not limited to, IHRA working definition adoptions, education mandates, transparency around foreign influence funding in the education system, hate crime measures, and Holocaust education initiatives.
  • Help develop, implement, and maintain a legislative tracking system that keeps CAM leadership and partners informed of bill status, hearings, votes, and outcomes in real time.
  • Prepare legislative summaries, briefing documents, and status reports for the Director of State Engagement and CAM leadership.
  • Monitor state legislative calendars, committee schedules, and hearing dates relevant to CAM’s priorities.
  • Assist the Director of State Engagement with tracking implementation of enacted legislation.

Communications and Outreach

  • Assist with communications for CAM’s state engagement work, including marketing materials, newsletters, and email updates to state officials, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Draft correspondence, invitations, and follow-up communications to governors’ offices, state legislators, attorneys general, and other state leaders.
  • Coordinate with CAM’s editorial and communications teams to highlight state-level victories, proclamations, and partnerships across CAM’s platforms.
  • Maintain and update contact databases of state officials, education leaders, and community partners.

Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) and Education Engagement

  • Communicate with state leaders on JAHM initiatives, including state Departments of Education, local Jewish communities, and higher education leaders.
  • Support outreach to governors and state legislatures for JAHM proclamations and programming.
  • Coordinate JAHM-related campaigns, contests, and events with state and local partners.
  • Help build year-round relationships with state education officials to advance antisemitism awareness and Holocaust education.

Events and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate event outreach and planning with internal and external stakeholders, including summits, convenings, briefings, and delegations involving state officials.
  • Manage invitations, RSVPs, logistics coordination, and follow-up for state engagement events.
  • Support coalition-building with Jewish organizations, civic groups, and interfaith partners at the state and local level.
  • Assist the Director of State Engagement by maintaining state-by-state engagement plans and track meetings, commitments, outstanding follow-up, and opportunities for continued collaboration.

Travel and Representation

  • Travel with the Director of State Engagement to legislative hearings, state government events, and conferences.
  • Represent CAM professionally in meetings with state officials, legislative staff, and community leaders.
  • Provide on-site support at hearings, testimony sessions, bill signings, and public events.

Coordination and Internal Workflow

  • Work closely with the Director of State Engagement to manage priorities, timelines, and follow-up across dozens of active state relationships.
  • Create and maintain clear workflows, trackers, and reporting systems for state engagement activities.
  • Prepare regular internal updates on legislative developments, upcoming events, and outreach priorities.

Qualifications

  • 3-6 years of experience in government affairs, state or federal legislative work, public policy, advocacy, political campaigns, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with state legislative processes, including how legislation, resolutions, and proclamations move through state governments.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, professional correspondence and briefing materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and relationships simultaneously.
  • Comfort engaging directly with elected officials, government staff, and community leaders.
  • Ability to travel regularly for hearings, conferences, and state government events.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and sensitivity when dealing with antisemitism, Jewish community issues, and Israel-related matters.
  • Knowledge of antisemitism, Jewish affairs, U.S. state politics, or civil rights issues is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with legislative tracking tools, CRM systems, or email marketing platforms is a plus.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-driven professional who understands how state governments operate and how to move initiatives through them. They are equally comfortable tracking a bill through committee, drafting a newsletter, coordinating an event, and sitting in a hearing room alongside the Director.

They do not wait for assignments. They anticipate what the Director and the team need, stay ahead of legislative calendars, and keep dozens of relationships and workstreams moving at once.
