Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan delivered a rant on YouTube containing a series of anti-Semitic comments and tropes.
While Farrakhan has long promoted the fight for more civil rights, for some reason he also preaches hatred and dehumanization of Jews. In this latest edition of anti-Semitism, Farrakhan argued that Jews are somehow responsible for many of the world’s ills and referred to the head of a leading Jewish civil rights organization as “Satan”. He even suggested the Jewish community seeks to kill him, saying, “If you [Jews] make that move, I can guarantee your destruction.”
Farrakhan’s speech, which was viewed by over 800,000 people on YouTube, was also promoted by the rap artist Sean Combs (Puff Daddy) to his millions of Twitter followers.
The video runs counter to YouTube’s policies regarding prohibited content. YouTube officially prohibits content that promotes or condones violence or incites hatred against individuals or groups based on core characteristics such as ethnicity, gender and sexual identity, and religion. This includes one of the most targeted minorities for hate crimes in the USA today – the Jewish people.
By looking the other way on Louis Farrakhan’s hateful comments, YouTube is allowing him to hijack the worthy cause of racial justice and use the video sharing site as a platform for anti-Semitism. This failure to acknowledge and act on Farrakhan’s long history of anti-Semitic remarks also enables celebrities and other figures with large social media followings to promote the minister and his anti-Semitic sentiments.

Dear Mr. Halprin,
I am writing to you because I am shocked by the incendiary Fourth of July speech by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, which featured inciteful, anti-Semitic remarks. While Farrakhan has long promoted the fight for more civil rights, for some reason he also preaches hatred and dehumanization of Jews. In this latest edition of anti‐Semitism, Farrakhan argued that Jews are somehow responsible for many of the world’s ills and referred to the head of a leading Jewish civil rights organization as “Satan”. He even suggested the Jewish community seeks to kill him, saying, “If you [Jews] make that move, I can guarantee your destruction.”
I respectfully ask Youtube to enforce its prohibition of content that promotes or condones violence or incites hatred against individuals or groups based on core characteristics such as ethnicity, gender and sexual identity, and religion.
Farrakhan has a long history of anti-Semitism, incorporating it into the very legitimate, important fight for civil rights and equality. His perversion of these values by promoting hatred and dehumanization of Jews is disappointing and he should not be given a platform on your website to promote intolerance.
