Today, with the increase in anti-Semitism on college campuses many Jewish students feel isolated and lonely. Students have been abandoned by many social justice groups that claim to advocate for all oppressed minorities.
Most Jewish students know what it’s like to be at the end of a Holocaust joke, to have their ethnic features mocked, to be called a “kike”, or to have to sit in silence while a professor unfairly spreads hate towards the only Jewish state. Students know what it’s like to have their calls for action on anti-Semitism fall on deaf ears, to feel the apathy of the friends and institutions who have promised to protect us, and to witness their university’s complicity.
Given this environment, students now have the opportunity to share their personal stories with JewishOnCampus, an instagram account run by students that is dedicated to creating awareness on the seriousness and danger that anti-Semitism poses in the academic environment. JewishOnCampus hopes that, through student stories, more people will be held accountable for the anti-Semitic words and actions that have hurt the Jewish community and its members. Most of all, your story should be told, inspire you to be proud of your Jewishness, and to be more vocal and active in the fight against anti-Semitism.
Let’s amplify Jewish voices, strive for university action, and join together to fight anti-Semitism.
