Critical legislation to protect the civil rights of Jewish students on university and college campuses advanced through the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee on July 9.
The University Accountability Act, introduced by Representatives Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY), will impose penalties on educational institutions that violate students’ civil rights under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
This vital and timely bill will hold colleges and universities accountable for failing to protect students from rampant and vile antisemitic harassment, discrimination, targeting, and violence. Specifically, it will impose financial consequences on these educational institutions who have disregarded antisemitic incidents on their campuses for far too long.
Since October 7, 2023, we have witnessed an explosion of antisemitism here in the United States, especially on college campuses. Ultimately, many of the “elite” colleges and universities have failed to fulfill their educational purpose and have enabled antisemitism to fester on their campuses, endangering the lives of Jewish students, faculty, and employees. As such, it is crucial to support the University Accountability Act in the House of Representatives.
The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) urges you to join us in advocating for the University Accountability Act by contacting your Member of Congress and requesting they cosponsor this vital legislation.
