Only eight decades after the Holocaust, antisemitism is once again on the rise worldwide. In Germany alone, there were 5,164 antisemitism incidents in 2023, nearly double the total of the previous year. At the same time, in the United States, 8,873 antisemitic incidents were reported in 2023, a 140-percent annual increase.
This troubling reality makes the work of the European Leadership Network (ELNET) and Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) all the more vital. Each and every day, ELNET and CAM lead collaborative and innovative efforts to fight the renewed scourge of hate that has swept across the globe in the aftermath of October 7th and build a better future for the Jewish people and all humanity.
On December 11-12, 2024, leading European, American, and Israeli decisionmakers from the realms of politics, science, business, and culture will gather in Vienna, Austria, for the second-annual “Actions Matter: The International Antisemitism Summit,” hosted by ELNET and CAM.
This event will build on the successes of the inaugural ELNET summit held in Berlin in March 2023 under the patronage of former President of the Federal Republic of Germany Christian Wulff, as well as the 2023 European Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism organized by CAM last November in Dortmund. At both forums, best practices were shared and impactful action plans devised.
The summit will feature plenary sessions and workshops focusing on the impact of recent events on Jewish life, the role of media, and strategies for responding to antisemitic incidents. Themes to be covered will include as combating antisemitism in universities, arts and culture, sports, and gaming. The summit will culminate in the development of policy recommendations to address antisemitism at different levels, resulting in actionable outcomes for cities and communities.
