In partnership with Beverly Hills Mayor Lester Friedman and the City of Beverly Hills, the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) is hosting on December 11-13 the fourth-annual Mayors Summit Against Antisemitism, where more than 200 municipal leaders, policymakers, and experts from across the United States and Canada will convene to share best practices and devise new innovative cities-oriented approaches to identifying and countering contemporary manifestations of antisemitism wherever they appear.
At the Summit, CAM will unveil its Municipal Antisemitism Action Index, a new tool designed to classify and rank municipalities based on their commitment and effectiveness in combating antisemitism, providing a clear framework and roadmap to measure progress, identify gaps, and promote best practices in local government action against hate and intolerance.
The world has experienced an unprecedented rise in Jew-hatred over the past 14 months, with 61% of American Jews saying they have personally experienced antisemitism since the October 7th massacre, according to a recent CAM survey. This is why CAM’s work with mayors is so vital, as they have a unique ability to fight antisemitism on the ground in the communities their Jewish constituents call home, and where its dangerous and harmful impacts are most viscerally felt.
Since 2021, CAM has built an international network of mayors united by the common goal of securing and nurturing Jewish life in their cities, with past summits hosted by Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Athens (Greece), Dortmund (Germany), and Fort Lauderdale (United States).
The Beverly Hills Summit will build on the successes of these past forums, and feature a series of keynote addresses, panel discussions, and educational workshops focused on empowering municipal authorities to work effectively with law enforcement, adopt strong legal ordinances, address campus and protest issues, and foster community unity.
