An elderly Florida Jewish woman and her husband fear for their safety after she was assaulted by their condo office manager, who also allegedly used an antisemitic slur during the alarming incident earlier this year.
The confrontation in question — documented in security camera footage — took place on March 16 at the Ocean Summit Condominium Apartments in Fort Lauderdale. Martha Arnold, 71, says she was attacked by the condo manager in a resident elevator.
“And I face this hand racing towards me and she strike me,” Arnold told the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM). “She put her hands right here and she said, ‘F*****g Jew.”
“That moment was like, it paralyzed me,” Arnold added.
Arnold’s husband, Martin, told CAM, “My wife suffers from PTSD, post-traumatic stress disorder, and her injuries persist to this day.”
“We feel that it’s our obligation to let people know what we experienced, what my wife experienced, the impact of that experience on our family, to let others know that this kind of thing does happen,” he continued. “And we are concerned that such incidents or threats of such are the experience of older people here. And we want to find a way to give them a sense that they’re not alone.”
Watch Martha and Martin Arnold tell their story here:
A statement from the condo association said, “The office manager is still employed and the condo association cannot comment on the specifics of the investigation, as police and the State Attorney’s Office is investigating and we are monitoring that closely.”
“The enemy is inside of my house,” Martha told WSVN 7News. “She has the keys of our apartment.”
