BDS Activists to Teach Anti-Semitism Seminar at World Social Forum in Brazil
BDS activists were set to teach a seminar on anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism at the World Social Forum in Brazil on Sunday, JTA reported.
The purpose of the seminar was to “clarify the differences between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, concepts that are frequently equated by Zionist propaganda to criminalize Palestinian resistance to occupation,” a BDS Brazil statement said.
The World Social Forum – established by members of alter-globalization movement in 2001 as an alternative to the World Economic Forum — has long featured anti-Israel activists and been accused of fostering anti-Semitism.
An event at the 2016 World Social Forum titled “Terroizm, Wahhabism, Zionism” was cancelled after a controversy erupted over an anti-Semitic image — a cartoon of an Uncle Sam coming out of a Jew’s mouth — that was used to advertise it, according to JTA.
