New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has tried to dismiss Walid Khass from his position as a pediatric resident since 2019. Khass has written on separate posts “Go beat up a Zionist,” “You trust the Jews — I never did” and “I hope only Israelis get ebola.” He also wrote that Egyptian President Al-Sisi’s mother was Jewish, meaning that she belongs to a “higher group run the corrupt world.” Read Here

Members of a synagogue in Montgomery, Alabama, who came together for a pre-Rosh Hashanah video call were subjected to foul anti-Semitic and racist abuse by a group of outsiders who hacked — or “Zoom-bombed” — the event. Rabbi Scott Kramer of Agudath Israel Etz Hayim Synagogue recalled that about 50 congregants had turned up for the meeting. The hacktivist group known as Anonymous has posted an anti-Semitic cartoon on Twitter by the notorious Brazilian cartoonist Carlos Latuff. The connotation is that accusations of anti-Semitism are being cynically used by Israel and the US to muzzle criticism of Israel. This notion is an example of the “Livingstone Formulation”, which holds that accusations of anti-Semitism are bad faith attempts by Jews to stifle criticism of Israel. The BDS movement has directed Arab content creators to avoid working with popular Israeli-Palestinian video blogger Nas Daily. Nuseir Yassin, 28, a native of the Lower Galilee, operates a Facebook page with over 17 million subscribers. He rose to popularity featuring one-minute daily videos of his travels around the globe. Freeze Corleone, a French rapper whose debut album reached number three on the country’s charts last week, is facing criminal prosecution for lyrics that promote crude anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial. Fifty members of the French parliament wrote to the Ministry of Justice demanding the rapper’s prosecution. ASU STUDENT GOVERNMENT CALLS ON UNIVERSITY TO ADOPT DEFINITION OF ANTI-SEMITISM

Two weeks after anti-Semitic posters appeared on Arizona State University’s Tempe, the Undergraduate Student Government passed a resolution condemning anti-Semitism and calling for additional measures from university administrators. SR-05 called on ASU President Michael Crow to release a public statement condemning the recent anti-Semitic incidents on campus, on ASU to adopt the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism and on the Office of Educational Outreach and Student Services to establish a Jewish Cultural Coalition. The Trump administration is planning a major “diplomatic campaign,” using “all available legal and policy tools” to combat the international BDS campaign against Israel. This new initiative could become a groundbreaking advance in international relations and human rights. The administration must pursue a “whole-of-government” approach, as State Department representatives have reportedly pledged. The US must be as clear as its allies in condemning BDS as anti-Semitic. Imagine the horror and disgust that I experienced when we read that Leila Khaled, one of the hijackers directly involved, had been invited by San Francisco State to address a forum on Gender, Justice and Resistance. What will she teach them? The proper way to hijack an aircraft? When I was a student, I often faced new ideas that ran contrary to my beliefs. But these perspectives were presented by knowledgeable, respectable academics. None were terrorists. STUDY: MORE THAN ONE IN 10 AMERICANS UNDER 40 THINKS JEWS CAUSED THE HOLOCAUST

A Claims Conference survey across all 50 states trying to gauge Holocaust knowledge among millennials and Generation Z, found that most respondents had heard of the Holocaust and 37% knew that 6 million Jews died. Slightly more than half could name at least one concentration camp or ghetto. But 11% of the respondents believed the Jews were responsible for the Holocaust, 15% said the Holocaust was a myth or has been exaggerated, and 20% said people talk about it too much. Nearly half said they had seen Holocaust denial online. There was little correlation between state Holocaust education requirements and Holocaust knowledge. Read Here
NEW UAE TEXTBOOK ENDORSES PEACE DEAL WITH ISRAEL

A new textbook in United Arab Emirates schools endorses the peace agreement with Israel. The IMPACT-se organization, which analyzes textbooks used in the Arab world, found that a sixth-grade Islamic studies textbook quotes Dr. Muhammad Matar Al Kaabi, head of the UAE General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments, expressing support for the normalization deal. A study by Daniel Allington, a senior lecturer at King’s College London, found that from 2016, belief in classic anti-Semitic tropes rose dramatically among Labour voters, reaching a peak in 2018. Today, the proportion of very anti-Semitic Labour voters has fallen, but remains higher than in 2016 — while belief in ‘new’ anti-Semitic ideas about Israel is on the rise. The proportion of Labour voters agreeing with four or more anti-Semitic statements about Israel and its supporters rose from 11% in 2019 to 16% in 2020. Read Here

Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and James Lankford (R-OK) are calling on Poland to enact comprehensive Holocaust restitution legislation following an uptick in anti-Semitic activity in the country. In a letter sent to Polish President Andrzej Duda, Rosen and Lankford, co-chairs of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism, note a series of controversial comments regarding restitution made by Duda, members of the governing Law and Justice Party and journalists reporting for state-run outlets. In a conference targeting anti-Semitism organized by the German-led EU Council, EU Commission vice president Margaritis Schinas said that “anti-Semitism is not just a Jewish problem: It’s a European and global issue.” The increasing instances of anti-Semitism against the Jewish population in Europe have not gone unnoticed, and while being a complicated issue with various systemic manifestations, online hate speech has a main role in encouraging anti-Semitism in Europe, according to Schinas. “Anti-Semitism has no place in the European Union,” he said. Chancellor Angela Merkel celebrated the renaissance of Jewish life in Germany but denounced the “disgrace” of increasingly open anti-Semitism and racism as she marked the 70th anniversary of the country’s main Jewish group. “We can be glad of flourishing Jewish life,” Merkel said during a ceremony at a Berlin synagogue. “But that is only one part of today’s reality. The other part of today’s reality is that many Jews don’t feel safe and respected in our country, and it causes me great concern.” Read Here
ISRAEL WELCOMES KOSOVO’S ADOPTION OF WORKING DEFINITION OF ANTI-SEMITISM

Israel has welcomed the decision of the government of Kosovo to adopt the working definition of anti-Semitism. The Government of Kosovo adopted the non-legally binding working definition of anti-Semitism, as employed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. Spokesperson of Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lior Haiat congratulated Kosovo Foreign Minister, Meliza Haradinaj-Stublla, for taking the important step towards adopting the important decision. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen mentioned growing anti-Semitism in Europe, in her State of the Union address to the European Parliament. She in particular denounced the anti-Semitic expressions at a Carnival parade in Aalst, Belgium, last year. Setting out her priorities for the year ahead, she said that the European Commission put forward an action plan against racism. ‘’Hate is hate and no one should have to put up with it,’’ she said. Jewish leaders gathered at the Nashville Holocaust Memorial to heal the pain caused by its desecration. “In their honor, we are here today to rededicate the sanctity of this space as a beacon of human love and strength, and we acknowledge our responsibility to care for one another as part of a human web of compassion,” Rabbi Shana Mackler said at the service. As Israel prepared to sign its peace treaty with Bahrain, the Gulf state’s King’s Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs met with the representative of Bahrain’s Jewish community. Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa hosted Ebrahim Daoud Nonoo, the only Jewish member of the Bahraini parliament. The Sheikh praised Nonoo’s patriotism and the Jewish community in general for its contributions to Bahraini society, which he called a model of coexistence. Read Here

The Combat Anti-Semitism Movement is a non-partisan, global grassroots movement of individuals and organizations, across all religions and faiths, united around the goal of ending anti-Semitism in all its forms. Since its launching in February 2019, 276 organizations and 289,000 individuals have joined the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement by signing the campaign’s pledge. The CAM Pledge draws upon the IHRA international definition of anti- Semitism and its list of specific behaviors used to discriminate against the Jewish people and the Jewish State of Israel.
