19 August 2020 (New York) – The Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM) announced today that advisor to the UK government on anti-Semitism and House of Lords member, Lord John Mann, has joined its Advisory Board. Lord Mann joins an impressive list of advisors helping the organization spearhead the fight against anti-Semitism across the world.
Mann served as the MP for the Bassetlaw constituency from 2001 until 2019. During this time, he chaired the all-party parliamentary group on anti-Semitism. After eighteen years in the House of Commons, he took a seat in the House of Lords having been appointed an advisor to the government on anti-Semitism, providing independent advice to ministers on how to tackle hatred and discrimination against Jews.
Mann has long been one of the strongest and most prominent public voices against anti-Semitism in the UK, regularly taking a high-profile, leading role against hatred directed at Jews. He has been widely acclaimed by Jewish community leaders and beyond for his work in fighting anti-Semitism.
The Combat Anti-Semitism Movement is a non-partisan, global grassroots movement of individuals and organizations, across all religions and faiths, united around the goal of ending anti-Semitism in all its forms. Since its launching in February 2019, 265 organizations and 280,000 individuals have joined the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement by signing the campaign’s pledge. The CAM Pledge draws upon the IHRA international definition of anti- Semitism and its list of specific behaviors used to discriminate against the Jewish people and the Jewish State of Israel.
Lord Mann joins CAM’s Advisory Board, which already includes Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog, former-US Sen. Joe Lieberman, human rights icon Natan Sharansky, Frankfurt Mayor Uwe Becker, Lord Eric Pickles and acclaimed Harvard academic Dr. Ruth Wisse.
Lord John Mann said, “The battle against anti-Semitism has not only played a major role in my public life. It is also an issue which I am passionate about on a personal level. The disease of anti-Semitism is not simply a problem for Jewish communities, it is a destructive force for all of society.”
“Worryingly, in these challenging times, anti-Semitism is experiencing a resurgence across the world. That is why the work being done by the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement, to recruit and bring people together in this fight, is so important. I am honored to join an Advisory Board which includes so many outstanding names from across the world. I look forward to contributing towards the excellent work they are already doing.”
Sacha Roytman-Dratwa, The Combat Anti-Semitism Movement Director commented, “We are delighted to welcome Lord John Mann to our Advisory Board. His determination in combating anti-Semitism over so many years speaks for itself. He has set an outstanding example to parliamentarians and decision-makers across the world.
