CAM Coalition Partners Spotlight: Condemning Antisemitism and Discussing Jewish Issues Across the World

From roundtables focused on freedom of religion to denouncing antisemitism in politics, the CAM coalition has had an inspiring week. With partner events taking place across Europe, Israel, and the United States, efforts have been made in a number of important locations.

Here is a sampling of how CAM partners made a difference this week:

Spotlight

Coalition for Jewish Values: On July 6th, CJV International Liaison Rabbi Jonathan Guttentag moderated a roundtable discussion at the International Ministerial Conference on Freedom of Religion or Belief: London 2022. The discussion focused on groundbreaking strategies for combating antisemitism that can significantly impact British and European policies.

Upcoming Events

Jewish on Campus: Applications for Jewish on Campus’ Ambassador Program are open for the 2022-2023 school year. The program provides Jewish college students with the skills to “combat antisemitism on college campuses in a safe and productive manner.”

Partner Achievements

American Jewish Congress (AJC): On July 11th, AJC condemned Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s statement in which she called Israel an “apartheid regime” and claimed that all “Palestinians are targeted by Israel.”

Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC): On July 8th, the JCRC published its list of legislative priorities. This list included California Senate Bill SB 693, which would establish a 15-member Governor’s Council on Genocide and Holocaust Education to determine best practices for education on genocide, including the Holocaust, and would submit an annual report to the Legislature.

NGO Monitor: Anne Herzberg, NGO Monitor’s legal advisor, addressed the 50th regular session of the Human Rights Council. She spoke about how while many countries claim to counter antisemitism, they “provide hundreds of millions of euros annually to groups that promote blatant antisemitism.”

American Jewish Committee (AJC): The newest episode of the AJC’s weekly podcast, People of the Pod, which analyzes global affairs through a Jewish lens, was released. This week’s episode focuses on antisemitism in Latin America, including the lasting impact of the AMIA attack of 1994 in Buenos Aires.

B’nai Brith International (BBI): During a hate speech in Montreal, where Gabriel Sohier Chaput stood trial for his call for “non-stop Nazism”, suddenly a discussion in the court room broke out on whether or not the Nazis were responsible for the Holocaust. Firmly appalled, BBI called for judges to have a better understanding of the Holocaust and the dangers of Holocaust Trivialization.

UN Watch: Beginning on July 12th, the Committee against Torture will convene to consider reports on the torture of civilians and POWs carried out by the Palestinian government. UN Watch has contributed a number of the reports to this effort and this convening will be the first time the Palestinian Authority will come under scrutiny from the UN regarding its use of torture.
