Relatives of 9/11 victims condemned Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday amid New York City’s continuing surge in antisemitic hate crimes.
The EndJewHatred movement and the Lawfare Project organized the “Unite Against Terror” demonstration at Essex Street and Straus Square outside the Democratic Socialists of America‘s Manhattan headquarters, three days before the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
Recently-released NYPD data showed that crimes targeting Jewish New Yorkers continued to drive the city’s hate crime figures in the first eight months of 2026. Critics have accused Mamdani of fueling those tensions through his rhetoric about Israel.
Cheri Sparacio, whose husband was killed at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, condemned Mamdani’s planned appearance at this year’s memorial ceremony. “How can this man be at my husband’s memorial? How can I stand there with him at my husband’s memorial?” she said.
Mike Weinstein, another relative of a victim, said those killed were “impacted by the attacks by al-Qaeda, violent Sunni Islamic terrorists, and jihadists.” He accused elements of the DSA’s leadership of aligning with “terrorist ideology” and said attacks targeting Jews had risen sharply since Mamdani took office.
Ori Solow, co-founder of the advocacy network Stop Mamdani, told the crowd that “New York will never surrender to radical extremism.” Fellow cofounder Ezra Greenspan added that the city “will not stand by quietly.”
Jayne Zirkle, EndJewHatred’s director of communications, said the demonstration brought together Christians, Jews, and Muslims against extremism. “This was a call to recognize the warning signs, reject extremism, and protect our communities from forces that can threaten the fabric of our country from within,” she said.
