Bill Elevating US Anti-Semitism Special Envoy to Ambassador Rank Signed Into Law

A bipartisan bill to bolster the US State Department’s role in fighting anti-Semitism was signed into law on Wednesday by President Donald Trump after its recent passage by Congress.

H.R. 221 — known as the “Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Act” — elevates the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism position — currently held by Elan Carr — to the ambassador-rank level.

Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) — one of the promoters of the legislation — said on Wednesday, “We have a moral obligation to put a stop to the alarming rise of anti-Semitism we are seeing across the globe.”

The law, Rosen noted, would “ensure the State Department has the necessary tools and resources to combat anti-Semitism.”

Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM) Director Sacha Roytman-Dratwa welcomed the news of the bill’s signing, stating, “To thwart the surge of anti-Semitism around the world, we must have all hands on deck. The further empowerment of the US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism position will only aid efforts to quell Jew-hatred.”

“I applaud the dedicated work done by lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to advance this vital legislation and the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement looks forward to continued cooperation with the State Department as we take the offensive to anti-Semitism,” he added.
