A man dressed as Adolf Hitler stood on an Israeli flag and performed a Nazi salute on April 20, along the route of the Boston Marathon.
Israeli runner Michal Yalovski filmed the incident. She said she initially felt encouraged after spotting an Israeli flag, saying that it gave her “strength and a sense of connection.”
“I was genuinely happy when I spotted one — until my mind fully processed what I was seeing, and that feeling quickly turned into shock and horror,” she added.
The man raised his arm in a Nazi salute and referenced April 20, both the marathon date and Hitler’s birthday. Yalovski said he appeared to target runners he perceived as Jewish or Israeli.
“I was in complete disbelief – frozen, struggling to understand how something like this could be happening,” she recalled. “How is it possible to witness such open hatred and antisemitism in 2026, in the United States?”
Yalovski also pointed to a lack of response. She said no one stopped the individual, despite a heavy security presence. Nearby runners did not confront him.
The Boston Athletic Association condemned the incident in a statement issued Friday and said the race is meant to bring people together.
Israeli Consul General to New England Benjamin Sharoni called the act “open Jew-hatred, plain and simple.” He said it was an attempt to intimidate Jewish participants.
This happened during the Boston marathon. If this is just about Israel, why is he wearing a red armband, doing a Nazi salute, and has a Hitler stach on and was yelling Hail Hitler pic.twitter.com/qaVLPdWDMv
