George Horne, 36, of Dundalk, Maryland, pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to vandalizing 12 gravestones at the Ohr Knesseth Israel Anshe Sfard Cemetery outside Baltimore on the night of July 16-17, 2023.
According to the plea agreement obtained by Walla, Horne admitted deliberately targeting the cemetery because it was Jewish. Before the attack, he told two users of an encrypted messaging application that he intended to visit a “rabbi graveyard.”
He then entered the grounds and sprayed black swastikas on several stones, recording a nine-second video as he went. Investigators identified Horne through a distinctive tattoo on his hand that matched one visible in the footage.
Afterward, Horne described his actions to another person as a “secret, nonviolent Aryan protest.”
He also complained that six burial grounds for Jews stood along the street, among the resting places of those he called the “original white residents.”
Searches of his vehicle, phones and a storage unit turned up a translated copy of Mein Kampf, a journal referencing the supremacist slogan known as the “14 Words,” a sticker bearing the number 1488, and phone wallpaper of Pikachu wearing a Nazi armband.
Horne faces a maximum of three years in prison. U.S. District Judge Matthew Maddox scheduled sentencing for mid-January.
