Vandals Damage Holocaust Memorial in Central Ukrainian City of Vasylkiv

Unidentified vandals damaged a memorial to Holocaust victims in the central Ukrainian city of Vasylkiv on Sunday.

A stone stab dedicated to the “Righteous Among the Nations” was destroyed in the incident, which was reported by the United Jewish Community of Ukraine.

The memorial — which was inaugurated in August — commemorates the more than 2,000 Jews of Vasylkiv who were murdered by the Nazis in 1941-42. It was built near the ravine where many of the executions took place.

Vasylkiv is located about 20 miles south of the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, where a new memorial center was inaugurated last week for the more than 30,000 victims of the Babi Yar massacre, in conjunction with its 80th anniversary.

More than a million Jews were killed in Ukraine during the Holocaust.

Meanwhile, in the central Ukrainian city of Uman this week, a man broke into a home and attacked a Jewish family as he shouted, “It’s a pity that Hitler did not kill you all,” and, “This is not your land.”
