The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) has voiced support for a bipartisan bill re-introduced by U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-FL) on Thursday that aims to increase and facilitate close coordination between the United States and Israel on new and improved health care technologies.
The “Maximizing Israel-U.S. Research Advancement and Collaborative Leadership in Emerging Medical Technology Act” — or “(MIRACLE) Medical Technology Act” for short — would:
– Promote R&D between the U.S. and Israel
– Support innovation hubs to accelerate the development and commercialization of new and emerging health technologies
– Protect health IP protections for biological products shared between the countries
– Facilitate best practices for health care system strengthening, including hospital cybersecurity efforts
– Enhance telemedicine infrastructure between the two countries
– Increase disease prevention initiatives
– Promote exchange programs and training initiatives
– Establish a U.S. Israel Health Care Collaboration Center
Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) and Congressman Darren Soto (D-FL) joined the bill as original cosponsors.
“Israel is a leading hub for innovations in health technology, and the U.S. must continue to strengthen ties between our two countries to support mutual healthcare advancement and medical breakthroughs,” Congressman Buchanan — who is vice chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and chairman of the Health Subcommittee — stated. “With a ceasefire deal underway and hostages being freed at this very moment, there has never been a more critical time to ensure the health of both nations. I am proud to work with Reps. Miller-Meeks and Soto to support the development of emerging healthcare technologies with our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel.”
In addition to CAM, the legislation is also backed by the America Israel Public Affairs Committee, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, U.S.–Israel Healthcare Collaboration Center, and the Israeli-American Civic Action Network.
CAM stated, “The U.S.-Israel relationship is built on shared values and interests, and the deepened collaboration fostered by this vital legislation will only further strengthen the enduring alliance and promote the health and prosperity of the peoples of both nations.”
The U.S. must strengthen ties with Israel—our greatest ally in the Middle East and a healthcare tech leader—to support healthcare advancement.
Pleased to introduce this bipartisan bill with @RepMMM and @RepDarrenSoto to promote innovation in healthcare. https://t.co/E46nJiWviI
