The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) issued a letter last Thursday signed by 120 elected officials from 38 states urging U.S. President Joe Biden to bolster support for Israel in the aftermath of the October 7th massacre perpetrated by Hamas.
“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and survival of the State of Israel and recognize Israel’s right to act decisively and unilaterally in self-defense to protect its citizens,” the letter — which can be read in full HERE — said.
“We urge you to strengthen and remain steadfast in your support for Israel, which includes backing Israel’s right to pursue — without interference or condemnation — the elimination of Hamas and affiliated groups until permanently neutralized,” the letter continued. “We oppose pressuring Israel to implement a premature ceasefire before achieving its security objectives. Israel, a sovereign nation with a more comprehensive understanding of Gaza’s strategic landscape, should decide when a ceasefire is appropriate.”
Copies of the letter were also sent to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as well as the leaders of the U.S. Senate and House Foreign Relations Committees.
ALEC CEO Lisa B. Nelson stated, “I’ve traveled to Israel, met with her lawmakers, and I can attest that the enduring partnership between the United States and Israel is vital to the security of both the region and the world. The time for equivocation has passed. There can be no offers of compromise or solutions of any kind until the complete and utter safety of Israel and her people has been secured.”
