THIS WEEK'S GLOBAL ANTISEMITISM REPORT
This week, we continued to monitor antisemitism around the world while advocating for more actions to be made.
As the White House unveiled its national strategy to combat antisemitism, anti-Jewish incidents were recorded across the United States. Antisemitic propaganda was found in the Atlanta and Detroit suburbs, as well as the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Squirrel Hill, where the Tree of Life synagogue massacre occurred in 2018. Also, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is seeking the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, expressed support for Roger Waters amid a controversy that arose after ex-Pink Floyd frontman was accused of dressing as an SS officer at a Berlin concert. At a subsequent Waters concert in Frankfurt, a pro-Israel demonstrator was aggressively apprehended by security guards who reportedly threatened to “break his neck.”
Meanwhile, the City University of New York (CUNY) continues to face backlash over the antisemitic remarks of a speaker at its law school commencement ceremony earlier this month. In her speech, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) activist Fatima Mousa Mohammed urged graduates to join “the fight against capitalism, racism, imperialism, and Zionism around the world.” Mohammed’s diatribe has drawn widespread condemnation from national and local elected officials on both sides of the political aisle, as well as Jewish organizations.
In the northern West Bank, an Israeli father of two was murdered by Palestinian terrorists, while preschoolers in the Gaza Strip were filmed on stage dressed in military uniforms and armed with toy guns performing the “liberation of Palestine.” In the Qatari Al-Watan newspaper, a Palestinian columnist called for increased terror attacks against Israelis.
This week’s global antisemitism report highlights 27 new reports of antisemitic incidents. The total includes 14 (51.9%) from the far-right, 2 (7.4%) from the far-left, 7 (26.0%) with Islamist motivations, and 4 (14.8%) unidentifiable in nature.
This week, CAM’s Antisemitism Research Center in partnership with the Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC) released a new report that provides an overview of the weaponization of the “apartheid” claim by anti-Zionists, its role in fueling antisemitism on campuses, and the manner in which it negatively impacts Jewish students.
