Picon — who passed away in 1992 at the age of 94 — began her career in Yiddish theater and film, rising to a star, before transitioning into character roles in English-language productions.
She is most widely known for her role as “Yente the Matchmaker” in the 1971 musical film Fiddler on the Roof.
Sunday’s induction ceremony was moderated by CAM Chief of Staff Arthur Maserjian, and speakers included Jewish American Hall of Fame Founding Director Mel Wacks, Virginia Holocaust Museum Executive Director Sam Asher, AJHS Senior Archivist Tanya Elder, and Cantor Lynn Torgove.
