On Monday in New York City, Empower Women Media hosted the Abrahamic Panels at United Nations Plaza, bringing together dozens of community members for an afternoon program featuring short films, expert presentations, discussion groups, and networking opportunities.
Empower Women Media, led by Executive Director Shirin Taber, is a non-profit NGO launched in 2015 to foster female engagement in peacebuilding and the promotion of religious freedom, freedom of expression, and gender equality worldwide.
Nova music festival massacre survivor and Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) Public Affairs Officer Natalie Sanandaji participated in a panel with American Muslim and Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council Advisory Board members Soraya Deen and Farhana Khorshed, Jewish trauma healing expert Michelle Sanders, and Erin Pedersen of Women’s Voices Now.
“Since what happened on October 7th, my life has taken a big turn,” Sanandaji said. “I was in an unfortunate place at a bad time. It wasn’t something I chose. But I did choose to make it into something good. And I feel very fortunate to be in this position now where I get to work on daily basis with such amazing people, build bridges, and create positivity instead of hate.”
Additional participants in Monday’s event included AMMWEC President Anila Ali, human rights activist and former NBA professional basketball player Enes Kanter Freedom, among others.
In a recent interview with CAM, Taber described Empower Women Media’s mission, saying, “We want to shine a light on women, their voices, and their approaches.”
