This personal reflection was authored by Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) CEO Sacha Roytman:
Today, I spent eight unforgettable hours in Oklahoma, during my first-ever trip to the South Central region of the United States. As a Jew and an Israeli, I was profoundly touched by my experience in the American heartland.
From the moment I arrived, the support I encountered — from legislators and State Capitol staff to an airport employee who glimpsed at my passport and proudly said “I will do everything to fight for Israel” — was nothing short of overwhelming. This refreshing compassion left a lasting impression on me.
A highlight of my visit was addressing a hearing of the Oklahoma Senate Education Committee, where I had the privilege of sharing my personal story as an Israeli citizen over the past 500 days, since the October 7th massacre. The opportunity to connect and speak openly was a cherished gift, made even more meaningful by the genuine warmth I felt throughout the day.
I’m deeply grateful to the our friends and allies in Oklahoma who have chosen to stand on the right side of history, with the Jewish people and State of Israel. A heartfelt thank you goes to State Senator Kristen Thompson for her inspiring leadership, as well as Senate Majority Floor Leader Julie Daniels and State Representative Emily Gise for their unwavering dedication to supporting Oklahoma’s Jewish community.
The solidarity and kindness I received during these eight hours were truly humbling. I feel honored to have spent this time in Oklahoma, and I will carry the memory of this day with me as CAM moves forward in our vital mission.
