UEFA Charges Eintracht Frankfurt Over Fan’s Nazi Salute at Champions League Match in Marseille

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has issued disciplinary charges against Eintracht Frankfurt and Olympique de Marseille over fan disturbances at their Champions League match earlier this week, including a Nazi salute performed by a supporter of the German club.

The misconduct took place during Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome in the southern French city on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported.

Frankfurt was charged with four offenses, including “racist behavior.”

In a statement, Eintracht Frankfurt condemned the actions of its fans, saying the club “stands for tolerance and diversity.”

“Antisemitic ideas are in stark contrast to the unequivocal and unshakeable values of the club and its roots,” it asserted.

Olympique de Marseille faces five UEFA charges, including “crowd disturbances.”

No timetable has been set for verdicts in the cases. “The UEFA disciplinary bodies will decide on the matter in due course,” UEFA said.
