On Tuesday, February 21st, at 1 PM ET, join a special digital reception honoring the late Italian “Righteous Among the Nations” Monsignor Giuseppe Placido Nicolini, the Bishop of Assisi during the Holocaust who saved hundreds of Jews from the Nazis.
After the Germans arrived, Bishop Nicolini — aided by several fellow local Catholic Church clergy members — established the “Assisi Network,” providing shelter and safe passage to Jewish refugees fleeing for their lives.
Tuesday’s event — featuring a keynote address from Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana, Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Cyprus, as well as remarks from a number of other religious figures, diplomats, and community leaders from across the world — will also explore the relevance of Bishop Nicolini’s bravery to the contemporary fight against antisemitism, which has surged globally to levels unprecedented in the post-World War II era.
The underground “Assisi Network,” established by Catholic clergy in Assisi, Italy, helped save more than 300 Jews from Nazi persecution. Join us in honoring the bravery of Bishop Giuseppe Nicolini who risked his life to help the Jewish people.
