Two San Francisco Bay Area mayors have issued a joint public service announcement calling on residents to stand up against rising antisemitism and hate.
“Antisemitism is not just a Jewish issue, it’s a community issue,” the statement of Walnut Creek Mayor Kevin Wilk and Moraga Mayor Kerry Hillis said. “Because when one neighbor feels unsafe, our entire community is affected. And silence should never be the response.”

“When families feel welcome, when children can go into school and feel proud of who they are and not have fear of taunting, when someone experiences hate, they know their community will stand beside them,” the mayors continued.
“You don’t have to be Jewish to stand up against antisemitism,” the mayors noted. “You don’t have to belong to any particular group to recognize when one human being is being treated unfairly. You just have to stand up.”
“When you hear hate, speak up,” they implored. “When you don’t understand someone, learn about them. And when a neighbor feels alone, stand beside them. And when our children are watching, remember they’re learning from what we tolerate and from what we choose to stand against. Show them what community looks like.”
“Our Jewish neighbors deserve to feel safe,” the mayors concluded. “Our children deserve to grow up without hate. And every family deserves to know their community will stand beside them. Different backgrounds. Different beliefs. One community. No place for antisemitism. And no place for hate.”
Mayor Wilk is a member of the Jewish Mayors and Municipal Leaders Association (JMMLA), launched by the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) earlier this year.
