Today, masked keffiyeh-wearing protestors took over a library at Barnard College, in the latest antisemitic disruption at the New York City institution.
The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) released the following statement from CEO Sacha Roytman:
“The administration of Barnard College, in cooperation with law enforcement, must act swiftly to end this dangerous situation and send a clear and firm message that antisemitic behavior will not be tolerated. Jewish students, and other members of the Barnard community at large, deserve to learn and live in safety, without intimidation and harassment. These Hamas-supporting demonstrators must face the most serious of consequences, including expulsion and criminal charges, to deter ongoing repeats of this illicit conduct.”
Wednesday’s incident followed a similar disturbance at Barnard last week.
In light of these occurrences, CAM will hold an emergency “Global Student Summit Against Antisemitism” in New York City on March 22-23. The conference will bring together hundreds of students, activists, policymakers, and other prominent voices for discussions about the current situation and the best practices for fighting the dangerous and violent rise in on-campus antisemitism.
Breaking: Protesters @BarnardCollege are staging a sit-in at the main library, which has been closed to students.
Taking over buildings and blocking access to academic space is becoming the new norm for these people. Looking forward to strong disciplinary action… pic.twitter.com/4S8gfhuN3b
