MIAMI BEACH, FL.The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) has announced the launch of the Jewish Mayors and Municipal Leaders Association (JMMLA), bringing together Jewish mayors and elected municipal leaders from across the United States into a national network dedicated to stronger cities, safer communities, and the enduring democratic values that have defined Jewish civic life in America for generations.

Jewish Americans have served in elected office since the earliest days of our nation, bringing to public service a tradition rooted an abiding commitment to the communities they call home. The JMMLA is built on that legacy. It gives today’s Jewish elected municipal leaders the network, platform, and collective voice to be even more effective for every constituent they serve.

At a moment when antisemitism has reached record levels and Jewish public figures are increasingly targeted for their heritage, the JMMLA also sends an unambiguous message that Jewish leaders are not stepping back. They are stepping forward together.

The association will connect members across jurisdictions through peer exchange, shared resources, and coordinated action on the issues that define local leadership — public safety, extremism prevention, resilience, and the everyday work of governing communities effectively and with integrity.

The JMMLA official launch will take place at Miami Beach City Hall on Monday, May 18, hosted by Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner, who will serve as the JMMLA’s inaugural chair.

A formal proclamation ceremony and press conference will be held at 1:00 PM at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden (2000 Convention Center Drive).

The founding of the JMMLA comes at an opportune moment, during Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) and just weeks before America’s 250th anniversary, a celebration in which Jewish Americans have played a proud and storied role.

“Jewish elected leaders are on the front lines of their communities every single day,” said Lisa Katz, CAM’s Chief Government Affairs Officer. “They carry the values of their tradition into the work of governing, and they deserve an association that reflects both. The Jewish Mayors and Municipal Leaders Association gives its members the network and the collective voice to build cities that are safe, resilient, and welcoming for everyone.”

Mayor Meiner said, “History has taught the Jewish people the cost of silence. As mayors and municipal leaders, we have a responsibility to confront antisemitism, defend democratic values and ensure every resident feels safe and protected in our communities.”
