A webinar hosted by the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) on Tuesday offered an in-depth examination of the historical roots of Jew-hatred and a detailed analysis of how it evolves and proliferates in its many forms today.
The forum — titled “Contemporary Antisemitism Explained: From Ancient Tropes to Modern-Day Anti-Zionism” — featured H.E. Isabelle Rome, French Ambassador for Human Rights and for the Remembrance of the Holocaust, and Richard C. Schneider, press officer and journalist specializing in the Middle East for Neue Zürcher Zeitung, a Zurich-based German-language daily newspaper.
The discussion was moderated by CAM Executive Director of European Affairs Shannon Seban.

Ambassador Rome said, “The resurgence antisemitic acts and threats that has been amplified since the terror attacks perpetrated by Hamas in Israel on October 7th, 2023, is a great challenge for every democratic country. France is home to the largest Jewish community in Europe, and this increase in antisemitic threats is taken very seriously by French public authorities.”
The ambassador noted France would assume the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) in 2027, and she highlighted the importance of promoting widespread use of the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism.
Commenting on the situation of German Jews, Schneider said Berlin — home to the country’s largest Jewish community — had become “a really difficult place to be, but also in other areas in Germany, the situation is getting worse like every everywhere else in Europe, especially in Western Europe.”
“Many Jewish people are considering leaving Germany for good,” Schneider added, attributing the rise of antisemitism to extremists across the ideological spectrum, from the far left to far right, as well as radical Islamists.
